Whaaahh! - what a great opening it was, on Sunday the 3rd.
I must admit i was quite nervous. I feared about the circular moving floor around the rods pool, i thought it would never make it, when we would pass more than 20 avatars on the sim.
Then came Eupalinos with his large Wurlitzer organ as avatar (becoming soon even a donkey). These things must weight more than 800 pounds!
I had to correct the floor prim twice, on-the-fly, i hope no-one saw that :)

I had a dream a few weeks ago.

Like everyone, i was deeply touched by the events in Japan, and in my dream i met a strange guy, a kind of scientist, who was able to neutralize the radioactivity by transforming the energy into music. That is what this build is about.

On the foundation of an old reactor, the music is reversing the disaster and nature seems to grow again.

The big test will happen on the 3rd of July, some 40 avatars will be invited and are going to test the location.

All the instruments presented are driven at random, and you, avatars, can largely interact with them, adding some factors to their behaviors.

The real radioactivity in the city of Yokohama (JP) plays an important role by determining the speed of the white atoms circulating around the building, as well as the rhythm of the well at the center of the edifice. The measurement can be read on the board that hangs at the opposite of the entrance.
The building has tested well for radiations of below the 0.25 microsieverts. Nobody actually knows what would happen to the sim if the radiation drastically augments.

The instruments:
"Les Cornes du Fin Fond" (Horns of Beyond) [Odyssee prize in April at UWA]
Inspired by the name of a Fungi named 'Trompettes des Morts' in French. They should be able to talk to dear ones that are gone.

"Horde de Cordes" (Host of Cords) [Second Prize of May at UWA]
Cellos are my favourite instruments and this object remains my favourite too.

"Pentatonic Automata" [Shown at the Schöffer Tower at Benvolio]
Quite an evolution when i found that the pentatonic scale was interesting to use with my random music script.

Outside the building (right of the entrance) on the little lake, you will find my "CylindreThailandais" which is the beginning of a new line of work including music.

Hi there ! - I am still working on New Caerleon giving the final touch to my musical environment. It consists of different sets of virtual instruments which produce sounds in an autonomous way.

First the instruments are scripted to produce complex movements with semi-repetitive algorithms. Then collisions trigger different sounds; mainly unique notes that are well scaled.

Only two samples of four notes are used in the whole presentation, the rest is tuned in pentatonic.

All instruments are interactive. The avatar, passing by, is able to modify the performing music by touching with his body, or crossing through the prims.

The choirs and the central element are rhythm by an external element: the atmospheric radiation in the city of Yokohama near Tokyo, Japan.

This is a first step to a promising study on the metaverse.

I will exhibit this work as soon as i am able to find a sim with lot of free resources.

Pas encore de possibilité d'importer des maillages (meshes) sur SL ?

Qu'à cela ne tienne, je le ferai triangle par triangle.

Hum celui-ci fait déjà à peu près 200 unités (prims) et n'est pas assez grand. J'ai calculé, il me faudrait au moins 800 cubes à transformer. Et puis comme c'est le moment de râler, j'en profite: Pourquoi une précision si faible pour la modification 'Shear' ? Un zéro supplémentaire après la virgule rendrait les choses plus commodes.

Hier lors de l'événement Art Breaker à POP ART LAB, Miso Susanowa soulignait l'absence de MIDI sur SL. Je la rejoins au club des râleurs: Nous voulons MIDI sur SL !

My new installation at Pirats Art Network uses a set of random events such as SL sun and wind to create unexpected music, made by automata.

"VOYAGE IN A CHANGING LAND" - Working on a project 'Locus Solus' illustrating some parts of Raymond Roussel's book, i played with a random rezzer to build a scene that never looks the same.

"PARADE FOR ORPHAN ORGANS" - A couple of automata play on chaotic keyboards.

Un hymne à l'éphémère et aux évènements aléatoires.

Techniquement, cette présentation utilise certaines possibilités de SL pour éviter les répétitions de mouvements et de fonctions. Le soleil et le vent de SL y jouent un rôle non négligeable et l'avatar passant pourra changer l'aspect des choses.

"VOYAGE DANS UN PAYS PROFOND"
Travaillant sur un projet de mettre en scène 'Locus Solus' de Raymond Roussel, je me suis amusé avec le principe des 'demoiselles' (les hies du premier chapitre) pour construire ce village.
Des Ophelies latentes observées par des veuves amusées, les édifices qui poussent comme des agarics amers, les eaux noires profondes qui engloutissent les bâtisses... choix du hasard..?

"PARADE POUR DES ORGUES DEFUNTES"
est un couple d'automates aléatoires jouant sur des claviers enchevêtrés.
Les phrases musicales semblent répétitives selon un cycle lent, mais pourtant jamais identiques au fil des rebonds.
On m'a dit que c'était le mariage de Jerry Lee Lewis et de Ligeti, je n'en crois pas un FA#.

THE VANISHING is a Caerleon Island artists collaboration on the theme of Interaction. As we found, the ultimate interaction is creating with a group of your friends! Team leader: Artistide Despres. Synopsis: A newbie enters a strange land called Second Life. Things seem familar here, yet quite different. Setting off down the path, our traveller tries to search for an understanding of this new environment but along the way mysteriously disappears. Follow his/her path. Enter the maze and discover the journal, look for clues, and try to find out what may have happened...

THE VANISHING explores the role that interaction plays in a virtual environment. We’ve created a story as a representation of how each of us may have begun our journey into Second Life. We invite you to walk through the various scenes and see for yourself what our avatar friend has discovered.

THE WELCOME AREA: your interaction begins by deciding the appearance of your avatar representative.

THE MAZE: confusion reigns at the beginning of our search. But if you read the clues you will find prizes!

THE FOREST: sounds and avatar-activated color shifts create a mysterious mood. Try dancing in the moonbeam for a nice interaction. Look for poses in other objects.

THE CANYON: see how interaction can occur from SL to the real world beyond.

THE MINE: explores the many interactions that can occur between objects.

THE FACTORY: creates a role that our friend experiences and leads us to a conclusion.

ABOUT CONSUME
CONSUME is a multi-artist collaboration that explores various themes of human consumption.
Housed in and around a monolithic department store towering over 1200m tall, CONSUME features an art installation on each floor created by artists responding to, and exploring, a particular aspect of consumption.

The overarching theme of CONSUME ponders the question: When is enough enough? Within this context, the various themes of CONSUME explore our desires and wants, and needs, to consume everything around us.

The challenge for each artist, in addition to creating work in 64sqm vertically aligned cubes, was to take on an area of consumption and find ways to express through art, how and why we consume, what happens when we consume and how does our consumption affect us, the people around us and the world in which we live.

The grounds around the CONSUME department store building set the stage by illustrating the flow of our consumption. On one side, trucks roll endlessly out of large pipes extruding from factories into large pipes embedded in the base of the CONSUME building. Simultaneously on the other side of the CONSUME building, the same "pipeline" leads to the massive amount of garbage continuously piling up as a result of our consumption.

Tucked away on another side is the plight of those who have little or nothing to consume -- and are subsequently disenfranchised, marginalized, harrassed and punished for not being prolific consumers and therefore, not a productive part of the chain of consumption.

Between the creation and disposal of the neverending stream of goods and services we consume, lies the CONSUME department store with its imposing facade rising upward from a nest of buildings bursting out of the ground.

Once inside the CONSUME department store building, visitors gain access to the elevators which will lead them to each floor to experience the artists' interpretations of the following areas of consumption:

CONSUME also features an ongoing "exquisite corpse" concept installation on one of the floors of the CONSUME department store that addresses Technology and the Digital Divide. This work is created by all the artists participating in CONSUME who will continue to add pieces to this installation -- building upon each others contributions. This collective collaboration will continue to develop and change throughout the run of the CONSUME exhibition.

CONSUME emulates multinational corporations by featuring consistent brand reinforcment by the repetitive use of CONSUME logo designs in obvious and subliminal contexts. Created by Pete Jiminy, the CONSUME brand appears throughout the exhibition. From 3D signs to 2D images on packaging, trucks and computer screens to various textures used on the CONSUME buidling iteself, the CONSUME brand is omnipresent.

In addition to the art installations, CONSUME also incorporates a fun and informative interactive game component. To enter the CONSUME deparment store, you must first obtain from one of two ATM machines a CONSUME Credit Card which you wear on your hud. The CONSUME Credit Card, marvelously scripted by Artistide Despres, keeps track of your consumption as you are presented with essential and non-essential products to consume - each of which has been assigned a specific dollar amount. You can consume only what you need, or as much of what you want of either, or both. The cost affixed to each item is then calculated on your CONSUME Credit Card hud, including compounded interest and appears in text above the card on your hud. When you reach the 13th floor, you will find out how much you have consumed via a scoreboard that notes the total amount of debt you have have acquired and comments on your spending habits. :-).

To further enhance the immersive experience of CONSUME, the floors are accessible via an exhilarating ride in glass enclosed elevators created by Caerleon's resident scripting goddess, Trinity Halberstadt.

Additional amusement park-like features such as the Bailout Bumper Boondoggle and the Magical Stairs to the Sphere of Magnetic Attraction add a fun and whimsical bent to the exhibition.

And of course, what ostentatious skyscraper rising far beyond the clouds would be complete without a surprise at the top?

CONSUME is consuming -- a feast for the eyes, the mind and the spirit. CONSUME is a fun engaging immersive collaborative work with amazing art and scripting by talented visionaries that demonstrates how VR worlds like SL can be used to create interactive art and environments that are culturally and intellectually enriching, stimulating and entertaining.

Actually, I hope you will tell everybody ;) that PRIMavera is here. But not quite yet....
I am the curator of AG3 gallery at Angelgate island and I want to invite you to the sneak preview of a very special event.
To celebrate the grand opening of the new AngelGate gallery we are very proud to present an amazing collection of the newest art works from 38 Second Life Artists. You will find 3 spacious floors of our gallery filled with all kind of styles and media - from 2D paintings to immersive Interactive Art. You will see a lot of familiar names as well as new talents making their debut on the SL art scene.
The grand opening party is the 11th and I expect it to be a very popular (aka laggy) event. Many art pieces are interactive and perhaps will not perform as well under such conditions. A la demande de Marc, j'ai réalisé une installation en rapport avec le circuit de l'argent. Oui, cette installation a un caractère politique. L'art sert à véhiculer des idées et des idéaux, c'est ce qui fait la différence avec le papier peint de ma salle à manger, qui lui n'a pour rôle que de calmer ma rétine.
Je dois avouer que je ne suis pas entièrement satisfaite de cette présentation: j'ai encore et toujours hésité entre suggerer des pensées et documenter (utiliser plus de texte). Finalement je pense avoir fait le bon choix en ne donnant pas trop d'indications.

Nous avons ouvert mon installation au public vendredi soir. Quatre étages sur le thème de la tolérance où des téléports mystérieux vous permettent de monter vers la salle lumineuse.

1 - Le Malaise du Monde
J'essaie de donner une vision du monde malade... on y peut lire la liste de toutes les grandes guerres de l'humanité, des enfants-soldats vous accueillent, les arbres sont morts, etc.
Seule méthode de sortie : aller vers la lumière, sortir du trou, monter, monter, monter...
Si vous avez choisi la lumière, vous arriverez à l'étage des paradis chimiques :

2 - Les Paradis Artificiels/La Porte d'une Perception
C'est un étage assez confus, où je mélange volontairement les acteurs et auteurs psychédéliques...
Que penser? une fuite, un moyen... je ne sais... mais on doit s'échapper vite, gravir un échelon, vers des choses moins égocentriques.
Il faudra finalement avaler une gélule pour sortir de cet enfer ouaté, pour arriver à un étage que je nomme :

3 - La connaissance/La Tour de Lumière
Pourtant, même en allant vers la lumière (la tour), nous gardons un goût fade de la vie et il nous manque une chose essentielle, la science et la connaissance ne suffisent donc pas?

4 - L'Arbre de Vie
"Seul l'amour, la tolérance et l'humanisme font la vie" ou bien : "On a tout essayé...sauf l'amour"
forment les thèmes de ce dernier étage où l'on se voit confronté à nous même pendant un dialogue avec un vieil arbre.

Cette présentation est le fruit du travail d'artistes visuels, pas de philosophes.
J'ai essayé de traiter du sujet de 'La tolérance' mais quel morceau. Et il me vient à l'esprit la phrase de Lucien Hervé:
"Il faut plus suggérer que documenter, et surtout ne pas imposer de vision philosophique."

Je tiens à remercier Soror Nishi pour son aide précieuse à la conception du jardin. Elle a réalisé les arbres et la végétation colorée du niveau des 'Portes d'une Perception'.
Un grand merci à Capitain, Sarah, Fabilene, AuraKyo pour leur soutien et conseils, et surtout le 'Parc des Arts', Formentera et Yperfokal pour m'avoir donné la chance de m'exprimer.

Difficile de ne pas dévoiler ce projet qui sera visible au public le 27 septembre sur la sim de Burning Life (Network). Artée campera sous son sténopé géant et donnera même des explications sur sa démarche, le mardi 30 septembre à 21 heures (Paris).

- " Quel courage avaient ces petits hommes..! "

Non, tout faux, la solitude intérieure sous la pression, peut importe son origine...
